Palili ‘O Kohala Cooperative

A traditional Native Hawaiian agricultural model includes families and communities working together to produce food and practice cultural traditions.

The families of the Palili ‘O Kohala project felt that the formation of an agricultural cooperative was consistent with the family-based, cooperative nature of the project.

In partnership with Melanie Bondera from The Laulima Center for Rural and Cooperative Business Development at the Kohala Center, the Palili ‘O Kohala Cooperative was formed in Spring of 2014.

The project is still in the training and development phase, but when in full production will be making and marketing poi, kulolo, taro salad, steamed and frozen taro and leaf.
